What is Gyproc EasiFill?

“Gyproc Easifill” is a brand name for a type of joint compound, or “mud,” which is used in construction to finish drywall and plasterboard. It’s a product of Saint-Gobain Gyproc, a company that specialises in the production of building materials. We have recently started stocking Gyproc EasiFill products to expand our building solutions range. At EWI Store, we are always looking to grow and expand. Therefore, expanding our building solutions range allows us to offer a more comprehensive range to our customers.

What is Gyproc EasiFill made of?

This compound is primarily made up of gypsum, a soft sulfate mineral, which is mixed with water to form a paste. It may also contain various additives to improve its performance, such as adhesive agents, anti-fungal agents, and substances to control its setting time and workability.

Gypsum is a mineral found in many parts of the world and is the main component of products like plaster, drywall, and blackboard chalk. It’s composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate. In the construction industry, gypsum is valued for several key properties:

  1. Fire resistance: Gypsum is non-combustible and can protect structural steel elements for up to 4 hours at high temperatures. Its crystalline structure contains small amounts of water, which, under high heat, is released as steam, helping to suppress flames.
  2. Ease of installation: Gypsum board is relatively easy to install and can be adapted to fit a variety of spaces. It can be cut to size using basic tools, and its lightweight nature allows for easy handling.
  3. Sound insulation: Gypsum walls provide good acoustic properties meaning they can help soundproof rooms. They are often used in building codes for rooms requiring sound isolation.
  4. Economic: Gypsum is relatively low-cost when compared to other building materials, making it a popular choice for large-scale construction projects.
  5. Versatility: Gypsum can be used in the production of various building materials. It is also used to create joint compounds like Gyproc Easifill.

Gypsum board, often referred to as drywall or plasterboard, is created by sandwiching a core of gypsum plaster between two layers of paper. This board can then be used to form walls and ceilings in buildings. It’s quick to install, easy to decorate, and requires less drying time than traditional plaster. Therefore, making it a popular choice in modern construction.

Uses of Gyproc EasiFill

The primary purpose of Gyproc Easifill is to smooth out the joints between sheets of drywall or plasterboard. When you’re installing drywall, there are inevitable gaps and seams where the boards come together. The Easifill product is used to fill these gaps and create a smooth, even surface. It’s applied over the seams and then sanded down once it’s dry, resulting in a surface that’s ready for painting or wallpapering.

It’s also used for filling cracks, holes, and other imperfections in walls and ceilings, making it a versatile product for both large-scale construction projects and smaller DIY jobs. The Easifill range is known for being lightweight and easy to sand, hence its name, making it popular with both professional builders and home improvers.
