EWI-746F Fine Finish Lime Render NHL 2 is part of the EWI Pro Heritage Range, designed for projects where breathability, moisture movement and compatibility with traditional building materials are essential. Formulated using NHL 2 as the primary binder, it provides a finer finishing coat for breathable lime render and plaster systems, making it especially well suited to heritage, conservation and refurbishment work where a more compatible alternative to dense cement-based materials is preferred. Made with natural hydraulic lime, selected sands and additives, it offers good workability, vapour permeability and a more refined traditional finish.

Designed for use as a fine finishing coat over breathable lime render systems, EWI-746F helps maintain the natural movement of moisture through the wall structure while giving a smoother, more decorative final surface. It is suitable for both internal and external applications where the binder strength is appropriate for the substrate, and can be finished by floating or sponging depending on the texture required.

    Intended Uses

EWI-746F Fine Finish Lime Render NHL 2 is suitable for both internal and external applications, making it a versatile solution for a wide range of projects, including:

    • Fine finishing coats over EWI-746 Lime Render NHL 2
    • External walls on solid brick, stone and traditional masonry
    • Internal walls where breathability is required
    • Heritage, conservation and refurbishment projects
    • Breathable wall build-ups where moisture movement and substrate compatibility are important
    • Projects requiring a finer, more decorative lime finish

It is especially appropriate where a breathable lime finish is needed over a compatible basecoat, and where a more refined surface texture is required without compromising vapour permeability.

    Key Benefits

    • Highly breathable, allowing moisture vapour to move naturally through the wall
    • Provides a finer finishing coat for traditional lime systems
    • Well suited to heritage, conservation and refurbishment projects
    • More compatible with traditional masonry than dense cement-based alternatives
    • Suitable for both internal and external use
    • Can be finished by floating or sponging to achieve the required texture
    • Good workability and consistency on site
    • Contains no Portland cement
    • Class A1 reaction to fire

    Compatible Products

    EWI-746 Lime Render NHL 2
EWI-746 is the intended basecoat for EWI-746F, creating a breathable lime render build-up suitable for traditional and heritage-style masonry.

    Blue Fibreglass Mesh
Blue Fibreglass Mesh can be incorporated where specified within the build-up.

    EWI-707 Lime Wash
Lime Wash can be applied as a breathable finishing and sealing coat where a more traditional decorative finish is required while still allowing moisture to evaporate naturally.

    EWI-705 Lime Paint
Once fully cured, Lime Paint can be applied as a breathable decorative finish where colour consistency or a more finished appearance is required, without restricting vapour permeability.

EWI-746F should only be used and finished within breathable lime-based systems to ensure long-term performance and proper moisture management.

    Substrate Preparation

Substrates must be sound, clean and free from contaminants that could impair adhesion, including dust, debris and loose material. Preparation should suit the condition and suction of the background. Dense or low-suction surfaces may need only minimal dampening, while more porous backgrounds should be dampened before application to help prevent rapid drying. The substrate should be damp but not saturated, with no standing water present. Prepare and protect the work area before application begins.

    Product Preparation

Mix EWI-746F Fine Finish Lime Render NHL 2 exclusively with clean water at a rate of 4 to 4.7 litres per 25kg bag.

    • Add water to a clean container first
    • Gradually introduce the powder while mixing
    • Mix for 5 to 10 minutes
    • Allow the material to stand for 10 to 20 minutes
    • Remix thoroughly before use

Do not add admixtures or other materials. Do not increase the water content by more than 10%, as excess water may cause shrinkage and cracking. Where part bags are used, the contents should be dry blended first, as settlement can occur during storage or transport. Use full bags wherever possible to maintain consistency.

    Application

EWI-746F Fine Finish Lime Render NHL 2 is applied as a finishing coat over lime render or basecoat. Apply at 5 to 7mm and finish by floating, with optional sponging depending on the required texture.

    • Apply as a fine finishing coat over a suitable lime basecoat
    • Apply at 5 to 7mm
    • Finish by floating for a traditional finish
    • Sponging can be used where a different surface texture is required
    • For false ashlar or similar lined finishes, maintain enough thickness to avoid drawing out the coarser aggregate beneath
    • In these applications, do not apply thicker than 8mm

For colour consistency across unpainted elevations, use material from the same batch across each elevation.
