EWI-747F Fine Finish Lime Render NHL 3.5 is designed for projects that require a finer, smoother lime finish while retaining all the performance benefits of traditional lime render. Formulated using natural hydraulic lime, it delivers excellent breathability, flexibility and durability, making it suitable for both heritage renovations and sympathetic modern construction.
Like all products in the EWI Heritage Range, EWI-747F contains no chemical additives and sets through carbonation, actively absorbing COâ‚‚ as it cures. Its refined texture allows contractors and specifiers to achieve a more elegant, subtle finish while preserving the timeless appearance and long-term building health associated with lime-based systems.
Intended Uses
EWI-747F Fine Finish Lime Render is suitable for internal and external applications and is typically used as a finishing coat over lime render base layers.
It is ideal for use on:
- External walls and chimneys
- Solid brick, stone and traditional masonry substrates
- Internal walls where a smooth, breathable lime finish is required
- Heritage and conservation projects requiring a refined appearance
It is especially well suited to applications where a traditional lime aesthetic is desired, but with a smoother, more polished finish than standard lime render.
Key Benefits
- Fine, smooth texture for a refined traditional lime finish
- Highly breathable, allowing natural moisture movement through the building fabric
- Flexible and crack-resistant, accommodating subtle building movement
- Stronger and more durable than softer lime finishes
- Helps manage moisture naturally, reducing the risk of damp
- Excellent workability, making it easy to apply and finish
- Completely natural, with no chemical additives
- Absorbs COâ‚‚ during carbonation, supporting sustainable construction
Compatible Products
EWI-747F Fine Finish Lime Render NHL 3.5 is a finishing render and must be protected with breathable coatings to ensure correct curing and long-term performance.
EWI-747 Lime Render NHL 3.5
EWI-747 acts as the basecoat within the lime render system and should be applied prior to EWI-747F. It provides the structural build-up and breathable foundation required before finishing with 747F.
EWI-707 Lime Wash
Lime Wash is a breathable finishing and sealing coat for EWI-747F, helping to protect and unify the surface during carbonation while allowing moisture to evaporate naturally.
EWI-705 Lime Paint
Once EWI-747F has fully cured, Lime Paint can be applied as a decorative finish where enhanced colour consistency or durability is required. As a breathable coating, it allows the render to continue managing moisture naturally.
Lime Wash and Lime Paint can also be blended together to create bespoke, heritage-style finishes while maintaining vapour permeability.
EWI-747F should only be finished with lime-based, vapour-permeable coatings to preserve the performance and breathability of the system.
Substrate Preparation
Substrates must be firm, clean and free from contaminants that could affect adhesion, including dust, grease, oils, salts, efflorescence, biological growth or loose material.
All backgrounds should be pre-dampened with clean water, ensuring the surface is moist but not saturated. This helps prevent rapid dehydration, promotes good adhesion and reduces the risk of cracking.
On older or uneven substrates, it is recommended to level the surface with a compatible lime mortar and allow it to harden before applying EWI-747F, ensuring a uniform application layer.
Product Preparation
Mix EWI-747F Fine Finish Lime Render exclusively with clean water at a rate of 4-5 litres per 23 kg bag.
- Add water to a clean mixing container
- Gradually add the powder while mixing
- Mix for 3-5 minutes until a smooth, lump-free consistency is achieved
Avoid adding excess water, as this may reduce mechanical strength and increase the risk of cracking. Once mixed, the material has a working time of approximately 60 minutes. For larger quantities, use an electric mixer or concrete mixer.
Application
EWI-747F can be applied by hand using a trowel or using a spray machine.
- Typical application thickness: 4-10 mm
- For thicknesses greater than 10 mm, apply in multiple layers, allowing each layer to firm up before applying the next
- Float the surface to achieve the desired smooth, fine finish
All tools and equipment should be cleaned with water immediately after use. Waste material must not be discharged into drainage systems.
