Substrate Preparation
For the best finished result, surfaces should be clean, sound and properly prepared before application. Any biological growth, loose material or defects that may affect adhesion should be dealt with beforehand, while junctions between different substrates and other vulnerable areas should be reinforced where required. When used as part of an EWI system, EWI-096 must be applied over a reinforced basecoat layer using EWI-225 Premium Basecoat with fibreglass mesh. Suitable priming should also be carried out depending on the background, including EWI-310 Universal Primer for low-suction or previously painted surfaces, and EWI-301 Water Based Substrate Primer or EWI-302 Deep Penetrating Primer for more absorbent substrates.
Product Preparation
EWI-096 Brick Effect Render is mixed with approximately 6.6 litres of clean, cool water per 25kg bag until a smooth, workable and lump-free consistency is achieved. After mixing, the material should be left briefly to stand before being remixed thoroughly. Correct preparation helps support a smoother application and a cleaner finished brick-effect appearance.
Application
This product is applied in layers to create its decorative brick-effect finish. The first coloured layer forms the mortar coat, creating an even base, while the second coloured face coat is applied wet-on-wet before being cut back to reveal the mortar layer below and form the brick joint pattern. This method helps achieve a detailed, authentic-looking finish that gives the façade the appearance of brick while remaining part of a render system.
Application Conditions
EWI-096 should be applied when air, substrate and product temperatures are between 5°C and 25°C. During application and drying, the surface should be protected from rain, frost, strong winds and rapid drying to help achieve a consistent finish and proper curing.
