    EWI-269 Lightweight Basecoat

    EWI-269 Lightweight basecoat is a breathable, heritage-friendly basecoat. Once dry, the basecoat provides a strong, flexible and waterproof layer. Since our Lightweight Basecoat can be applied in a thick layer, it is ideal for use with our Orange Fibreglass Mesh. This mesh is best-suited to thick coat renders and plasters. The Lightweight Basecoat can be applied internally or externally on the following substrates:

    • Ziegel Blockwork e.g. Porotherm, Thermoplan, Juwo blocks & Poroton Block;
    • Autoclaved aerated concrete blocks e.g. Ytong;
    • Calcium Silicate blocks;
    • Stone e.g. Sandstone, limestone and natural stone;
    • Solid brick walls.

    Please note that this basecoat is not for use with insulation products.

    Application

    Using an electric paddle mix, mix the EWI-269 25kg dry mix bag with 5 litres of clean, potable water. We recommend that you mix the basecoat for 2-3 minutes to achieve the required consistency. Once mixed, the product is then ready for use. Once the mixture has hardened, you should not remix the Lightweight Basecoat with fresh material. You should then use a plastering trowel or spray machine to apply the basecoat to the substrate. Depending on the desired finish, you can apply the basecoat in a single pass or in multiple layers. The maximum recommended depth of a single pass of the Lightweight Basecoat is 20mm.

    Lightweight Basecoat - EWI-269. Good gear. Mix water proportion was a faff. Grabbed well on the stone and block. A bit tricky getting the thick consistency perfect on the trowel finish, sets quick when it's sunny.

    right faff this job was. Bags ripped, late, and dumped by the driver. This 'lightweight' gear slumps before 20mm and drsnk procduct2coverage was nowhere near the claimed 4-5kg/m2. Needed far too much. aWsted time trying to remix but it was set solid, nowhere near 2 hours pot life. Expensive headache.

    Sound stuff for heritage. Needed a good prime but the trowelling took proper effort.

    Struggled to get a proper spray consistency following the approx 5 litres instruction. It was way too stiff; needed nearer 6.5L just to run smooth tghrough the pump. That constant topping up on sjite is a total ball ache and wrecks the workflow. Workable eventually, but far too finikg. Won't be ordering this one again.

    Brill basecoat for the cal-sil blocks & thick layers. Solid adh. A bit pricey when factoring the primer. Also sets too quick in the summer.

    AWFUL: Set fast, zero support. Rubbish mix was a proper shambldes, setting up in the bucket way too fast, nowhere near the advertised two hours. Tried a thick 20mm pass on Ytlng, craciked instantly and the trowel finish was a pain. When I rang up about the curing speed, the rep was tptally dismissive and suggested I added the wrong water. Unbelievable! Shoddy ptoduct, zero supoprt. Now chipping this brittle stuff off.
