Regal & Barnes Venetian Trowel (also known as a polished plaster trowel) is used in the application of Venetian plaster. Venetian plaster is a decorative finish for walls and ceilings that originated in Venice, Italy. It is a technique that involves applying multiple layers of plaster, which are then burnished to create a smooth, polished surface with a marble-like appearance.

The trowel has a stainless steel blade with a flexible and smooth surface and the design enables the plaster to be spread evenly and thinly, facilitating the creation of a uniform and polished finish.

Application

When using a Venetian trowel, the plaster is applied in thin layers, with each layer allowed to dry before applying the next. The trowel is used to spread the plaster evenly and then to burnish or polish the surface. The burnishing process involves rubbing the trowel over the dried plaster in a circular motion, which smoothens the surface and enhances its sheen.

It requires skill and practice to use the trowel effectively, as the technique and pressure applied during the burnishing process can greatly impact the final result.
