Types Of Tape Used In The Construction Industry

We offer several different types of tape here at EWI Store. By far, the most popular tape we sell is our now famous Orange rendering tape, but in the blog below we look in more detail at all the different types of tape we sell and why you might use them!

Orange Rendering Tape

Our Orange Rendering tape is a type of adhesive tape that is specifically designed for use in the construction industry, specifically for use in rendering and plastering applications. It is made from a strong, durable, and waterproof material with a strong adhesive, which makes it ideal for use in outdoor and indoor applications.

Our Rendering tape is used to mask off areas that should not be rendered or plastered, such as windows, door frames, and skirting boards. It is used to protect these areas from the wet plaster or render and to create a sharp edge between the newly rendered surface and the existing one.

The Rendering tape can be used on a variety of surfaces, including brick, concrete, and plasterboard, and it can be used with a variety of different rendering and plastering products. It is available in various widths and is usually sold in rolls. It can be removed easily and cleanly from most surfaces after the rendering or plastering process is complete, and it leaves no residue or damage to the surface.

Rendering tape is designed to be used in a variety of weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures, and it is resistant to water, so it can be used in both indoor and outdoor applications.

Rendering tape and UV light

One of the reasons our orange rendering tape is so popular is that is resistant to UV.

UV radiation from the sun can harm some types of external tapes, especially cheaper rendering tapes. The UV radiation can cause the adhesive on the tape to degrade over time, making it less effective at sticking to surfaces. Additionally, UV radiation can cause the backing material on the tape to become brittle and break down, which can lead to the tape losing its strength and becoming less effective at protecting the surface it is applied to.

Our orange rendering tape is made with UV-stabilized adhesives and backings that are formulated to resist the effects of UV radiation. This makes them more durable and long-lasting when used in outdoor applications.

It also ensures when the tape has served its purpose, it can be removed without leaving any residue, which is a problem with some other rendering tapes, especially when they are applied to PVC windows.

  • With UV irradiation, oligomers make cross -linked structure by the polymerization reaction. Therefore, Adhesive becomes hard and loses adhesive strength.
  • Adhesive Strength becomes Low after UV Irradiation.

Gaffer & Duct Tape

Gaffer and Duct tape are often assumed to be the same thing, however, there are some key differences in their construction, uses, and properties.

Gaffer tape, also known as gaff tape or spike tape, is a heavy-duty cloth tape that is designed for use in the film and theatre industries. It is made from a strong, durable fabric backing that is coated with a rubber-based adhesive. Gaffer tape is known for its high tensile strength, resistance to moisture and heat, and ability to be torn by hand. It is often used to secure cables, hold down stage props, and mark out areas on a set. Gaffer tape is also used for various industrial and construction applications, due to its strong adhesive and durability.

Duct tape, on the other hand, is a type of pressure-sensitive tape that is made from polyethylene-coated cloth backing and a rubber adhesive. Duct tape is known for its strong adhesion, durability, and water resistance. It is often used for sealing ducts, patching holes, and making repairs around the house. Duct tape is also used in various industrial and construction applications, due to its strong adhesive and durability.

In summary, Gaffer tape is stronger and more durable than duct tape and it is more resistant to heat and moisture, making it ideal for use in the film and theatre industries and various industrial and construction applications. Duct tape is known for its strong adhesion and water resistance, and it is often used for sealing ducts, patching holes, and making repairs around the house.
