EWI-220 EPS Basecoat Adhesive is designed to be used within the mesh reinforcement layer of our EWI Pro EPS thermal insulation system. It can also be used to attach EPS boards to the wall, as a stronger substitute for EWI-210 EPS adhesive. EWI-220 EPS basecoat contains reinforcing fibres for extra strength.
EWI-220 EPS Basecoat Adhesive is our most popular adhesive – it is used to fix EPS to substrates and also as part of the basecoat layer. Once dry the adhesive provides a strong, flexible (when used for basecoat) and waterproof layer. Since the EPS basecoat adhesive can be used for a dual purpose it allows installers to have only one type of bag on site, meaning less wastage.
EWI-220 Basecoat adhesive can be used for two purposes:
EWI-220 is prepared in the same way regardless of whether it is being used as a basecoat adhesive or to fix the EPS insulation boards to the substrate. Suitable substrate types for the EPS insulation panels are as follows: ordinary concrete, walls of ceramic and silicate elements, concrete, light-aggregate and cellular concrete with untreated surface, plastered, painted or textured.
The EPS Basecoat adhesive comes as a dry mix in 25kg, so needs to be mixed with clean, cold water (6.3 litres) prior to use. We suggest using a large bucket and adding the water prior to the EPS adhesive. Once the basecoat adhesive has been added to the water, it needs to be mixed using a paddle mix until an even consistency mortar is produced.
Once the EPS basecoat adhesive has been mixed, leave the bucket for 5-10 minutes and then remix using the paddle mix – the adhesive is then ready for use.
If using the EPS basecoat adhesive for the basecoat layer, apply the basecoat using a 10mm notched trowel to the substrate. Then embed overlapping pieces of fibreglass mesh – the mesh should sit within the middle of the basecoat layer. Once embedded the basecoat layer should be 6mm in total.
If using the EPS basecoat to fix the EPS boards, the adhesive can either be applied to the whole surface of the EPS board using a notched trowel, or applied to the perimeter of the insulation board + 3 dabs across the middle.
If using mineral wool, then EWI-225 (Premium MW Adhesive) must be used instead of EWI-220.
