EWI-220 EPS Basecoat is a mortar designed to be used within the mesh reinforcement layer of our EWI Pro EPS thermal insulation system. It can also be used as a substitute for EWI-210 EPS adhesive. The EPS base coat is supplied as a ready-to-use dry mixture. When mixed with water, it becomes a grey adhesive putty. Once it has set firm and hard, it has excellent water and frost resistance, adhesive and elastic properties. EWI-220 also contains reinforcement fibres.
EWI-220 EPS Adhesive is an adhesive used within the reinforcement layer, prior to applying render. The reinforcement layer is an incredibly important part of the insulation/render system as it provides a strong base on which to apply the render. EWI-220 EPS Basecoat is a modified cementitious powder requiring the site addition of potable water to produce a high performance base coat for embedment of reinforcing mesh in the EWI-Pro systems.
EWI-220 EPS Adhesive comes in a 25kg bag and requires 6.3 litres of clean water adding to it prior to application. Depending on the thickness of EPS Adhesive applied to the underlying substrate, one 25kg of EWI-220 should cover approximately 4m2.
If using mineral wool then EWI-225 (Premium MW Adhesive) must be used instead of EWI-220.
The product is designed for preparing the reinforcement layer within the EWI pro solid wall insulation (EPS) and render systems. It can also be used as an alternative to EWI-210 EPS adhesive for fixing foamed polystyrene panels to substrates in interior and exterior uses. Suitable substrate types for insulation panels: ordinary concrete, walls of ceramic and silicate elements, concrete, light-aggregate and cellular concrete with untreated surface, plastered, painted or textured. EWI-220 should not be used for fixing extruded polystyrene (XPS) and thermal insulation on bituminous substrates.
