What is tile adhesive?
ProFlex SPES Tile Adhesive is an excellent adhesive when applying wall or floor tiles. It is perfect for ceramic & porcelain tiles, glass, mosaics, marble, travertine, granite, limestone, terracotta, quarry tiles, slate tiles, quartz and brick slips.
Another great bonus to this product is it can be used both internally and externally on almost all substrates. Ideal for commercial or residential use such as wet rooms, swimming pools, conservatories and general wall & floor installations.
At EWI Store, we stock four different types of tile adhesive:
- Rapid set: White, Grey
- Standard set: White, Grey
Both tile adhesives are highly flexible, which is why they can withstand vibrations or movements in the substrate.
How to apply floor and wall tile adhesive
Substrate preparation
Ensure all walls and floors are clean, dry and dust/dirt free. We recommend using EWI-310 Universal primer as this improves the sealing and bonding of the adhesive to the substrate.
Mixing
Once the substrate has been prepared, slowly add the tile adhesive to clean water. Mix thoroughly using a dill/mixer, you can also use a paddle to give a lump free, easily worked mortar consistency. Use immediately after mixing. Pot life is approximately 2 hours in 20°C.
Application
Apply the adhesive to the required thickness (limits 3mm – 20mm) in areas up to 1m² at a time. Moreover, for internal walls, use a notched trowel to the following notch dimensions to provide solid rib lines:
- Mosaic tiles: 3mm x 3mm at 6mm centres
- General wall tiles: 5mm x 5mm at 10mm centres
- General floor tiles: 8mm x 8mm at 16 mm centres
For floors and external applications, we advise using the solid bed method.
Tile on Tile
Removing existing tiles is always recommended; however, applying new to old is perfectly acceptable. It is crucial existing tiles are checked for stability, ensuring they are securely bonded and capable of taking extra weight. Always check for tile-specific requirements, do not over-tile onto softer vinyl, quartz or composite tiles.
