Choose reliable masonry fixings and anchors for brick, stone, block walls and concrete surfaces. Our range covers concrete screws, wall plugs and heavy-duty anchor bolts designed to secure brackets, battens and other fixtures with strength and ease during EWI and façade work.

Masonry fixings and anchors for secure construction

From light jobs to heavy connections, well-matched fixings keep installations safe and durable. Select fasteners by substrate, load and embedment depth, then pair with the right drill bit from cutting & drilling to streamline the process.

    What are masonry fixings?

They are fasteners designed to grip masonry—brick, block or concrete. Typical options include concrete screws, masonry screws, wall plugs with woodscrews, and anchor bolts for higher loads. Many are zinc plated for corrosion resistance and are manufactured in a variety of sizes to suit different applications.

    Common types of masonry fixings

    • Concrete screws (masonry screws): cut their own thread in a pre-drilled hole; quick installation on concrete surfaces and dense brick.

    • Wall plugs: nylon plugs plus screws for reliable fastening into brick or block; ideal for light to medium fixtures.

    • Anchor bolts: sleeve, wedge or through-bolts that expand in the hole to secure heavy brackets and rails.

    Concrete screws and their advantages

Concrete screws provide high pull-out strength, are removable, and allow immediate loading. They’re widely used for fixing brackets to concrete and dense masonry because they are fast, tidy and require minimal hardware.

    Wall plugs for reliable fastening

Wall plugs spread load in brittle materials and are suitable for fixtures on brick or block walls. Choose plug and screw sizes that match the hole diameter and the thickness of the item being fixed.

    Anchor bolts for heavy-duty applications

Anchor bolts (expansion anchors) are designed for higher loads on concrete and hard stone—perfect for rails, frame shoes and structural brackets. Always verify required embedment and edge distances before installation.

    How to use masonry fixings

    1. Select the fixing type for the substrate (brick, block, concrete) and load.

    2. Mark positions; drill with the correct masonry bit from cutting & drilling; clear dust from the hole.

    3. Insert plug/anchor or drive the concrete screw; tighten to the stated torque.

    4. Check that the fixture sits flush and secure; avoid overtightening on hollow units.

Can you screw directly into masonry?

Not without a pilot. Even “self-tapping” masonry screws need a pre-drilled hole to the specified diameter and depth for safe working and consistent strength.

Do you need to pre-drill for masonry screws?

Yes. Pre-drilling with the right bit size is essential to achieve designed performance, reduce cracking and ensure the screw threads cut cleanly.

Applications in building materials and external wall insulation

Use masonry fixings to mount starter tracks, support timber battens, secure brackets through EWI into the structural wall, and attach accessories on cavity walls (fixing to the load-bearing leaf). For façade works see also our insulation fixings category.

Benefits of using high quality masonry fixings

    • Durability: zinc plated and robustly manufactured for long service life.

    • Ease of installation: clear sizes and range of options make selection and installation easy.

    • Secure performance: reliable strength on brick, block and concrete across various applications.
