EWI-090 Monocouche Render
The EWI-090 Monocouche Render is a high-performance cement-based, through-coloured scratch render. This decorative render has been designed with water-repellence, breathability, and durability in mind. The EWI-090 is used on both larger commercial or residential projects, and suitable for concrete, clay, block, and brick substrates.
Monocouche Scratch Render is a thick coat render that is applied in two passes. The material base is comprised of premium quality Portland cement, hydrated lime, polymers and modifying admixtures. This delivers enhanced adhesive properties, ensuring a flexible and crack-resistant finish is achieved.
The EWI-090 is a low maintenance product that achieves a natural stone-like appearance for a long-lasting decorative finish.
Preparation
All surfaces should be clean, dry and free from material that may impair application. Prime the substrate before application. We recommend the EWI-310 Universal Primer.
The EWI-090 Monocouche Render is a dry mixture, mix with clean, potable water to activate the ingredients. Pour the 25kg dry mix bag into approx. 4.5-5 litres of water. Mix thoroughly for 2 minutes, leave to stand, and then re-mix.
Monocouche Render Application
Apply render to the primed surface in two passes. Apply the first pass with a stainless steel trowel or spray pump at a thickness of 10mm and embed fibreglass mesh in the first pass. Then, apply the second pass to a thickness of 8-9mm, then scratch it back to 2-3mm to give the completed finish. The total depth will be between 15-17mm. Drying time varies depending on weather conditions. Note: Avoid rendering below the DPC or within 150mm of ground level.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between Monocouche and Silicone Render?
Monocouche is a through-coloured thick-coat render that offers a smoother, chalkier finish by scraping the render to create a pitted effect. Silicone Render, on the other hand, is a thin-coat render with advanced properties making it less likely to crack over time.
- What Monocouche colours can I choose from?
At EWI Store, we offer six different monocouche colours that you can choose from. These include Bright White, Cotton White, Cashew, Latte, Pebble, and Portobello.
- How is Monocouche applied, and can I use a spray machine?
Monocouche Render should be applied in two passes. For the first pass, you should use a stainless steel trowel or spray machine to apply the render at a thickness of 10mm. Within this first pass, you should embed fibreglass mesh. In the second pass, apply the render to a thickness of 8-9mm, then scratch it back to 2-3mm to give the completed finish.
- How much water do I need to mix Monocouche with?
Using a suitable paddle mixer, you should mix approximately 4.5-5 litres of water per 25kg bag of Monocouche Render for 2 minutes. Once mixed, leave for 5 minutes, then remix thoroughly.

Good value. Can scrape it back easy. Decent gear.
Davedaplast –
First time we used it. Went on nice, goes off a bit slower than some of the others out there but in this heat that is not a bad thing. Decent finish when we scratched it back.

Easy to use and looks good, quick delivery. Would recommend.
