The Benefits Of Using Silicone Render

Why render my property?

So, first things first, what are the benefits of rendering your property? and what makes Silicone Render different? Rendering your property has many advantages, from protecting the brickwork from damp and damage, to modernising the outside aesthetics of your house. Rendering your home may also offer another layer of insulation, keeping your home warmer in the winter months and reducing energy bills.

There are many different types of render such as Monocouche Renders, Acrylic Renders, and Silicone renders.

In this blog, we are going to explore what makes silicone render stand out from the rest.

What is so great about silicone render?

Silicone renders are growing in popularity due their unique properties over other types of render. They are breathable, flexible, hydrophobic, and self-cleaning!

Breathability

Breathability is an important feature in render as it means if moisture builds up behind the substrate then it will still be able to escape. Whereas if your render was not breathable, the moisture would stay behind the render and potentially cause damage to your walls and render.

Flexibility

Property tends to swell in the summer and shrink in the winter months which can cause your render to crack. Therefore, you need a render which will flex with the movement of the property, which will withstand the test of time and looking better for longer.

Whereas traditional cement render tends to crack easier allowing moisture to penetrate deeper and cause further cracking and damage to the building.

Hydrophobic

Silicone Render is extremely waterproof, helping moisture be carried away from the property and preventing any long term issues. When water builds up on the surface, and the droplet is heavy enough to run down, it will take dirt with it , meaning it is also self-cleaning!

‘EWIPRO Premium Bio Silicone Render‘ contains cleaning agents which attack bio-growth. Ideal in high vegetation areas or areas with increased exposure to organic matter. This prevents bio-growth and keeps the render looking clean and fresh for longer.

At EWI Store you are able to select from our 36 traditional colours, you are able to order a colour chart which shows you all the different colours we offer. You are also able to customise your render with RAL or NCS colours.

Silicone renders come pre-mixed which means that the product will always be mixed to a consistent ratio and won’t vary from pot to pot. It is also one of the easiest renders to apply. This product has a lot to offer for both ease of application and for quality and appearance.

  1. An excellent concise article to share with my clients when discussing options for their home.

  2. Didn’t realise there were so many different choices when it comes to render. Really useful blog with lots of clear information. Silicone render gets a 👍

  3. Hello, Can i please ask if any of your range can be used onto previously applied smooth standard rendering.
    Thank you Alan

    1. Hi Alan, You can apply our products to an already rendered substrate, this is reliant on the strength of the existing render and you will need to ensure it is structurally stable.

You will need to use EWI-310 Universal Primer first to create a mechanical key, then apply a basecoat and embed fibreglass mesh into the basecoat to provide extra strength to the system. Once, these steps have been performed you will be able to apply our Silicone Render.
